What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment that lays its main emphasis on the structural and functional integrity of the body. It considers the body as whole unit with all parts of the body working together. Osteopaths therefore look to identify the true cause of a patient’s problem and not simply focus on the site of pain.
“When the body is balanced and efficient, just like a well-tuned engine, it will function effectively.”
What Osteopathy can treat
“Its not just about backs”
Back ache is the most common complaint treated, however Osteopaths are trained to evaluate, diagnose and treat dysfunctional areas within the whole body such as muscles, joints and ligaments.
Many conditions can benefit from Osteopathic treatment, here are just a few:

- Back and neck pain
- Headaches
- Tension
- Trapped nerves and sciatica
- Spots injuries
- Arthritic pain
- Repetitive strains, tennis elbow
- Joint pain
- Hip, pelvic knee and ankle pain
- Shoulder, arm, wrist pain.

What to expect when you visit

At Deeping Osteopaths we want you to feel safe at all times, do ask questions at any time during your consultation if you are not comfortable.
Deeping Osteopaths consider each patient individually. On your first appointment you will be asked about your presenting problem, lifestyle, work, family and medical history.
In order to allow a full diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your needs, patients are normally asked to undress down to underwear, or shorts. If you do not feel comfortable in doing so clinic gowns are available.
You may be asked to perform a series of simple exercises. The Osteopath will then use their hands to identify abnormalities in structure and movement, in order to form a working diagnosis.
Your first appointment will normally last around 1 hour. Any subsequent visits last around ½ an hour.
What Osteopathic treatment involves
Treatment will be tailored to suit the individual and their problem.
Osteopathy aims to restore the normal balance your body needs to maintain optimal health (homeostasis). To do this your treatment may include some or all of the following:
